In a significant development for Lidl Hungary, the company has unveiled a new logistics center in Kiskunfélegyháza, a project that represents an investment of nearly 60 billion forints, approximately €162 million. This facility stands as Lidl’s largest warehouse in the country and is poised to enhance the supply chain for around 70 of its stores, reinforcing the retailer’s footprint across Hungary.
Spanning over 83,000 square meters, the logistics hub has already generated over 400 new jobs, with plans to recruit an additional 50 employees soon. The center is equipped with 194 loading docks and boasts a 24,000-square-meter refrigerated section. In line with Lidl’s commitment to sustainability, the facility integrates energy-efficient systems, including a 9,000-square-meter rooftop solar installation and an innovative system that utilizes waste heat from refrigeration for underfloor heating.
Around the logistics center, a 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green area has been developed, underscoring the retailer’s dedication to environmental responsibility. This new logistics hub is set to play a crucial role in strengthening Lidl’s nationwide supply network, with approximately 4,500 pallets of goods expected to be dispatched daily from the facility.
Lidl’s presence in Hungary is robust, with 220 stores currently in operation. The company is committed to supporting local businesses, sourcing nearly 60% of its products from Hungarian suppliers. The establishment of this logistics center is a strategic move to bolster the retailer’s ongoing expansion efforts and solidify its operations within the domestic market.
